Is it worth hiring an SEO agency?

Hiring an SEO agency is worth it when three things are true: you don't have the time to do it yourself, the agency can show you where you rank before and after the work, and the money is going toward things that actually move a local business. When any one of those is missing, it's not worth it.

Start with your time. If you're the owner and you're also running calls, your hour is worth more than an agency's hour. Learning citations, schema, and site structure on nights and weekends is possible, but every hour you spend there is an hour not spent on the business. Plenty of contractors hire us for that reason alone.

Then proof. Any agency worth paying should run a rank tracker and a geo grid before they touch anything, and show you the same grid a few months later. If they report on "impressions" and "content published" instead, you're paying for activity.

Then the work itself. For an HVAC company, the work that matters is the map pack: a website that mirrors your Google Business Profile, a profile that's set up right, consistent citations, and steady reviews. If an agency's plan is mostly blog posts and ads, they're adding refrigerant to a freezing coil.

At Upward Bound Media we only take on businesses we're confident we can produce a real return for, and we hold territory exclusivity, one company per area.
